I have been commuting to work by bicycle for over 3 years now, all year long, rain or shine except when there is ice and snow on the ground. My commute is 9 miles and I burn about 400 calories on my way to work and another 400 calories on my way home. Keeping dry from the rain is a obvious concern but so is perspiration. Whenever the air temperature is above 60 degrees, it's too warm to wear long pants.

In the middle of downtown Portland, there is a 12 block long strip of lawns, trees, flower beds, benches, and public art. Great way to spend a lunch hour with food carts and the public library nearby.

On Saturday mornings, there is a farmer's market on the Portland State University Campus. There are fresh blueberries and raspberries during June, in between the strawberries in June and the peaches in August. The Simon Benson House is in the background.

Portland, Oregon has a lot of outdoor concerts during the summer showcasing many talented musicians and bands. Portlanders of all ages love to dance. Here they are in front of the Salmon Street Fountain Stage, named after a local landmark on the river front. The Hawthorne Bridge, one of many bridges crossing the Willamette River, is in the background.
