Additional Email Account Setup

If you have opted for an additional email (POP) account, this page will show you how to set up your email program to access your new email. Just remember, your new email account is not a dialup account. You will continue to connect using your primary login name and password (or DSL or other connection). The only place you use the POP account name and password is in your email program settings.

For multiple Email accounts, Outlook Express is by far the best email program.

OUTLOOK EXPRESS 5/6

If you want both email accounts to be within the same Outlook Express window, follow the directions below. If you would like each person to have their own instance of Outlook Express and be completely separate, use Outlook Express Indentities. Click on File | Manage Identites | New. Once you have established a new Identity, the setup instructions are the same.

In Outlook Express, click Tools | Accounts. Click the Mail tab, then the Add button and then Mail.

Type your name for the Display Name. Go Next. Type in your new email address. Go Next.

Go Next. Type in your POP account username (do not add @hevanet.com) and the password. Do not check the SPA. Go Next and Finish. Back at the Internet Accounts, you should now have two mail accounts. Highlight the one you just made and click the Properties button. At the top, change the mail account name to your new POP account username. Click OK. Click Close.

Now that you have your new account configured, you can get fancy and use Outlook Express's Message Rules to sort your emails to different folders. Here's how.

Go to Tools | Message Rules | Mail. Click the New button.

  • In the #1. box, scroll down and check "Where the message is from the specified account".
  • In the #2. box, check "Move it to the specified folder".
  • In the #3. box, click on the first blue "specified". Select your new account name and click OK. Click on the second blue "specified". Click the "New folder" button. Type the name of your new account and click OK. Click OK again.
  • In the #4. box, change the message rule name to your new account name. Click OK and OK again.
Now mail from each account will be routed to its own folder.

When you compose new messages or reply to current messages, you should have a choice of email addresses to choose from in the FROM: field of the message. Just pick the address you want.

NETSCAPE COMMUNICATOR

With Netscape Communicator, you can set up an entirely different Profile for the new email POP account. This way, each person has their own settings and message storage.

The easiest way to set up is to use the Netscape User Profile Manager utility. It can be found under the Netscape Program Group on your Windows Start Menu.

Click the New button. Go Next. Type in your name and new email address. Go Next. Type a Profile name. Leave the path for user settings as recommended. Go Next. The Outgoing mail (SMTP) server is: mail.hevanet.com. Go Next.

The mail server user name is your new POP account name (do not add @hevanet.com). The Incoming Mail Server is: pop.hevanet.com. Mail Server Type is: POP3. Go Next. The News (NNTP) server can be left blank. Click Finish.

Now, when you start Communicator, you will choose which profile to work with. Each person will have their own email, bookmarks, etc.
