Stag

Psalm 42 presents the deer as a soul searching for God, “Like a deer that longs for running streams, my soul longs for you my God.” This is interpreted as a symbol of a soul searching for union with God through the waters of baptism. Early Christians regarded the white stag as a symbol of Christ. Medieval art presents the head of a stag with a sun and moon between the antlers or simply crowned with a star, a sign referring to Christ.
