WORDS ON A SCREEN
I turn the computer on
And the adventure starts.
Emotions in space
At a fast modem's pace.
I race to the sight of you
Every night for you.
We NETCHAT with friends
The fun rarely ends.

CHORUS:
They're only words on a screen
What can this mean?
Love, sight unseen.
And yet I'm mad for you
I've got it bad for you
Emotion just flows
And still my love grows.

I cling to the dream of you-
The thought of touching you.
Our bodies both lent
Love's passion well spent.
I flush with desire
As you keystroke my fire
I quiver and then
We *hug* once again.

CHORUS:
You're only words on a screen
What can this mean?
Love, sight unseen.
You know I'm mad for you
I've got it bad for you
Emotion just flows
And still my love grows.

Your night world is calling you
Just as my day begins
The time's gone so fast
We wish it would last.
It's hard when we both want more
To shut that computer door
You kiss me till when
We can *hug* once again.

CHORUS:
We're only words on the screen
What can this mean?
Love, sight unseen.
But know I'm mad for you
I've got it bad for you
Emotion just flows
And still my love grows.
But how can it grow?

It's now a pleasant memory, but we sure had a blast on Valentine's Day, 1997 at the song release parties! Between 60-70 people joined in the fun at the live party and we were hooked up to a huuuuuge screen TV so all could enjoy being online. We didn't have a "virgin" to sacrifice to the netG*DS *grin*, so we had to run to GalaxyNet and try to escape all the splits and lagtime. We were also hooked up to CuSEEME and had fun with video conferencing from all over.

As far as the radio stations go, we were really lucky to have such great airtime for being *virtually* unknown! =)

** Saline arranged for it to be played on three popular radio stations: 5AA, 5DN and 5AN, in Adelaide, Australia. She also wrote a wonderful column about the song and love on the net - her story included!

** JD met with the manager of all the DJ's at RADIO HAIFA in Israel, and it was played in at least once in every radio show there. His wife Orah is still w*rking on another radio station in Israel.

** PMA arranged for the song to be played on RADIO FRAMBOIS in Switzerland. Unfortunately the DJ was unable to get online during the party, but the effort was sure appreciated.

** KBOO in Portland, Oregon played the song on a couple of different shows. I have to admit it was quite a thrill to actually hear it on the radio.

Now that the Valentine's Day party is over, efforts continue to be made to get this song *out there*. For this song to make it (since I am clearly not a big name or have a big agent -or any for that matter- ), we can use all the help we can get!

Here are just some ideas of how you could help if you have an interest:

For me, these grass root efforts that we do together, are yet more examples of the magic of the net. While I might have come up with the song, it would not be *out there* without peoples' kind and generous help. Your support is appreciated more than you know! THANKS!!!

I would love it if you would take a minute and SIGN MY GUEST BOOK while you are here.

"A WHOLE OTHER LIFE"

This is the story that that contains the song.

Here are two of the first reviews:

Rachel Harris's historic "Words on a Screen" captures the essence of beauty and mystery which lies in the new technology's capacity for text-based romance. It is the first musical interpretation of the wonderful fire of pure emotion which can be generated between people who only know each other from head to head through the touch of a keyboard. Rachel manages to incorporate these complexities through her simple and heartfelt lyrics. And she gives it an accessible universality with a tune which one finds oneself humming all day long. This is the love song which can demystify net relationships for once and for all.

How do people who have never met fall in love? Very easily in a medium
that combines the timeless craft of pen pals with the tech-edged
internet. No longer limited by local environment, the odds of finding
your soulmate have just skyrocketed into cyberspace.

Rachel Harris, counselor, web site coordinator, cyberzine columnist and editor, inventor, and drummaker, has written a song about the wonder, lust and puzzlement of
finding yourself deep in the obsession and craving of an online romance.

Anne Weiss, a talented acoustic singer/songwriter (Tomorrow's Gate -
hrmusic@rahul.net) does the vocals with Jason Heald on guitar.
Set to a Jimmy Buffett tempo, this song rocks you gently with the flush of
love.

Use it as audio foreplay and send it to someone you lust for.
