[38] Sanford was the Town Clerk in Petersham 1882-1904. From Lord's History of Athol, "Sanford B. Cook of Petersham taught the entire school year of 1869-70 receiving for his work $810. Many in town remember this kindly gentleman and his quiet effective ways of handling what had come to be considered a most difficult school. Sitting calmly at his desk incessantly chewing his cud of tobacco, he proved a distinct success as Principal. Mr. Cook died in his native Petersham on November 24, 1903.
