History

Celebrating 30 years of Professional Image making

My name is TJ Civis and I began photographing as a hobby when I was 5 years old. My father was an amateur photographer and let me use his camera often. I started photographing professionally in 1978 as a freelance photographer for Jam Productions in Chicago shooting stadium rock concerts.

After moving to Portland, OR in 1981, I returned to school and studied Visual Design at Oregon State University where I received my Bachelors of Fine Arts degree.

In 1987, I founded a gallery and co op photography space called Artist's Photographic Resource and operated it until 1990. I also began working in the film industry in '87 as a day player doing Grip/Electric work and Stills Photography.

I returned to doing freelance work as a photographer until 1999 when I then founded Bonya Productions and began working on my own film, video, and live show productions.

I am currently working just under my own name and mostly hire out as a Director of Photography, Producer, or Production Designer on film projects. I also have five projects of my own in development and am actively looking for properties to acquire.
