My father was a Prohibition Agent and then a Revenue Officer. He was transferred about every eight to twelve months. In order to get along in each new school I learned to conform and observe. I still do that, try to conform to others' ideas of what I should do and be while I watch the people around me. The people watching got me started in writing while I was still in school. Those characters I viewed needed to be recorded. In a very real way my writing now helps me explore other venues than those limited ones which are either expected of me, or I am physically able to do. I'm an eclectic reader, losing myself in a well-written story or article, sometimes rewriting and adding to it. When not reading or writing I play English Handbells, volunteer at an Oregon State Park and moderate a Bible Study Group. With the able help of my sociable cat, Barney, I like to cook, especially bake goodies to share with others, build quilts, and help plants grow both inside and out. |

If you stopped by my home, my cat and I would invite you in for a cup of tea and a cookie or a cinnamon roll (I love to bake, but don't dare eat all I concoct.) We could discuss writing, volunteering, gardening, even grandchildren--of course, mine are more outstanding than anyone else's. You might like to see my quilt-in-progress or share a quiet chat. |
