Bible Errors

A lot of people believe that the Bible is completely perfect and error free. This idea seems reasonable, since why should God allow His word to be errored. Unfortunately this idea doesn't quite fit the facts. You will notice that the mistakes in the Bible are in unimportant details, translation and punctuation. These are not the mistakes of God but the mistakes of imperfect humans.

I love the Bible. It holds the teachings of God's spokesmen who wrote and taught what God directed them to. The teachings of the Bible are the teachings of God and therefore, free of errors. The version of the Bible I read and trust is the King James Version (KJV). It has a very good translation and has poetry and beauty that other translations lack. The Bible is one of the most fascinating books I have ever read and I would encourage you to read it as well.

  1. Errors in the Bible
    1. Title Above Jesus on the Cross
    2. Matthew 27:37
And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

      Mark 15:26
And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

      Luke 23:38
And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

      John 19:19
And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

    3. Time and the Crucifixion
    4. Luke 23:44
And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour.

      Mark 15:25
And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.

      John 19:14-15
And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your king!
But they cried out, Away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

    5. Jeremiah or Zechariah?
    6. [The greek name for Jeremiah is Jeremy]
      Matthew 27:9-10
      Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.

      Zechariah 11:12-13
And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighted for my price thirty pieces of silver
And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty of pieces silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD.

  2. Errors in the KJV
  3. Translation

    1. Paul's conversion
    2. Acts 9:7
And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.

      Acts 22:9
And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

      Explanation:
The men who were with Paul heard the sound of the voice in the first verse but in the second the greek words means to understand. Therefore, they heard the sound of the voice but did not understand it.
