| Wildlife in Oregon is a public
resource, owned and enjoyed
by every citizen. We celebrate the fact that wildlife management was started by, and is sustained by hunters. Even so, we believe that it is every citizen's duty to be as informed as possible in matters relating to the management of this valuable resource. We further believe that all of us can take an active role in wildlife management. The Oregon Hunter Education Program is one means of accomplishing that end. |

| Delivered by volunteers and administered through the
Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife, Hunter Education is much more than a "gun safety" class. Today's course deals with our stewardship of, and responsibility for, wildlife in a world of rapidly shrinking habitat. It fosters ethical behavior and sportsmanship among hunters, and champions the cause of "fair chase". It emphasizes and stresses respect: respect for wildlife, respect for the land, respect for property, respect for ourselves as hunters and conservators, and respect for the opinions and beliefs of non hunters. |

| Every member of Safety Trails is a volunteer Hunter Ed.
instructor dedicated to safe and responsible hunting, committed to the principals stated above, and advocates responsible management of our wildlife resources for future generations. Each instructor member has passed a training program and a background check, lives and/or teaches in Multnomah County and is currently listed as an active instructor in good standing with the Department of Fish & Wildlife. ![]() |
