Welcome to the Project Keep Warm Homepage!

I have coordinated Project Keep Warm since 1998.  During that time, I have distributed literally thousands of hats, scarves, gloves and blankets throughout the Portland Metropolitan area due to the kindness of many, many other volunteers.  This has been a very rewarding project for me, and so it is with some ambivalence that I am announcing that 2009 is the last year I plan on coordinating Project Keep Warm.  The need for warm, dry items for some of Portland’s most needy remains strong.  If you are interested in continuing this annual effort, I know it would be most appreciated.  Please contact me, Tammy Carpenter, at tcarp@hevanet.com, as I am available to offer any guidance you might need.

Project Keep Warm is a community service project where volunteers purchase fleece fabric and make scarves (which require no sewing), hats (which require minor sewing skills) and blankets (which require no sewing).  Hats, scarves and blankets are distributed to social service agencies and organizations that serve the needs of homeless and low income men, women and children in our community.  While the focus of Project Keep Warm has been on handmade items, donations of store bought hats, scarves, gloves and blankets are gladly accepted as well.

Please take the time to view the site and learn more about how you can help out the project.
