For development agencies, Dr. Reamer also has prepared industry-specific strategic analyses, in regional industries such as telecommunications, information technology, advanced materials, software, metalworking, environmental technology, marine technology, biomedical, and food processing. These analyses utilize a combination of data and information from a variety of Federal, other public, and private sources.
Dr. Reamer also has carried out several data-focused research
projects. In the mid-1980s, he received a grant from EDA to use
ES-202 microdata to ascertain the extent of and reasons for
manufacturing job loss in Rhode Island. This effort was one of
the first large-scale uses of ES-202 microdata. For the last
eleven years, Dr. Reamer has been responsible for
the preparation of portions of the annual Development Report for the States, published by the Corporation for Enterprise Development. For this publication, which compares state economies along a number of dimensions, Dr. Reamer developed several measures -- a competitiveness index of each state's economic base, and two measures of the diversity of industries within the economic base.
Dr. Reamer has written about and taught techniques of regional economic data analysis. For the EDA research project mentioned above, he prepared a handbook on the use of Federal and state economic data for analyzing state and regional manufacturing sectors. He has served as a lecturer in regional economic development in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Prior to forming Andrew Reamer & Associates, Dr. Reamer was a partner in Mt. Auburn Associates, an economic development consulting firm. He has a Master in City Planning degree and a Ph.D. in Economic Development and Public Policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received his Bachelor of Science in Economics degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
