In GOOD and EVIL you say "...just enough intelligence to ... but too little wisdom to..." which is a very excellent point. Since the human brain has not evolved significantly in perhaps 100,000 years (there being no reason) I like to think of our Jetson world as being inhabited by Flintstones. Look at it this way and much of the nonsense suddenly makes perfect sense. Until artificial intelligence takes over, humans will continue to use technology merely to build bigger and better cathedrals. You also mention the War on Drugs - how else would one explain it except as (like sex & AIDS/public education & adolescence/affirmative action & welfare/religion & politics) nothing but another cathedral?
