Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

Ask for gifts of wisdom.

The solemnity of the Epiphany and the shopping season are now over, and they seem mostly to be in contrast to each other.

The nation's health is measured in the news charts by the success of the marketing season (and former President Bill Clinton last year headlined "It's the economy, stupid!"), while divorce, abortion and other degradations eat at the fabric of our character.

Consumerism and militarism are the national religion of a great power - us - who barely tip the sca1es an iota in the mortal fabric of the universe.

At Epiphany we are starving for virtue. May gifts of wisdom not available at Walmart be given to us this new year.

Richard Kovac
