Dear friends and family,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to share news with all of
you about my beach house. On December 5th the house will pass along to
new owners. As you may guess this decision was difficult for me, with
many considerations, not the least of which being the availability of
accessible vacation spots for our friends and families! Today, I am
writing to share my deep gratitude with all of you for the great
memories, time and energy that you've put into the beach house (aka
Kallak'ala) over the years.
When I decided to purchase the property I also took on a sense of
stewardship for the land that held the house. Many of you helped in that
stewardship: helping divert water runoff, building pathways, bagging
oyster shells, stripping paint, planting willows, ferns, salmonberry and
many, many more acts of kindness. All of this careful tending really
helped facilitate the ability of Kallak'ala to hold space for healing,
transformation and relationship in profound ways: weddings, reunions,
retreats and gatherings of friends a family from all over the world have
passed through the house and land it sits upon. Each and every one of
you contributed to what Kallak'ala offered.
An important part of being a steward is knowing when your work is done.
I feel hopeful, excited and little scared about what a future without
the beach house holds, but mostly I feel excited. As my future career
around marine issues takes shape, no doubt I will continue to find new
and interesting ways to vacation near ocean waters. I look forward to
the possibility of surfing with each and every one of you at some point
along the way!
