Subversive Commie Stamp of the Day Project Banner

Welcome to your daily dose of philatelic class struggle
brought to you by the postal services of the red menace.

DPRK Stamp Welcome to the Subversive Commie Stamp of the Day homepage. I've been a stamp collector of sorts for about the last year and a half ago, primarily as a means of more cheaply gathering "commie" historical collectibles. I have a handful of orders and medals, a couple of banners, a poster or two, all of which, for the most part, set me back a good bit. Stamps are cheap!! This discovery, along with the discovery that many socialist / communist countries produced stamps that were basically tiny propoganda posters, inspired me to start snapping stuff up. I'm a big AgitProp (agitational propaganda) fan, particularly the work of Georg Grosz, Hearstfield, and Leopoldo Méndez and others of the TGP of Mexico.

I certainly don't have a huge or well organized collection (read: I have a life), but I enjoy looking at what I have as well as researching the history behind the stamps and searching for more of them: hence my paycheck dwindling away to eBay dealers and this little project! My collection is DDR focused (I'm trying to get a complete East Germany) and I have a lot of Soviet. The areas I am trying to improve upon are DPRK (North Korea), Albania, PRC (People's Republic of China....very spendy, those Mao stamps), Cuba, and Viet Nam. I have dreams of a complete PDRY (People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, or South Yemen), but I have little hope. Anybody wanna trade stuff?!?!? Click on that mail icon and let's make a deal....

The clincher for getting this online philatelic circus going however was the "Commie Kitsch" entry my lovely and loving girlfriend VJ did in her online journal (check it out. . . mighty cool).

Just to clarify, I'm not a commie (though I do play one on TV). I have a great deal of respect for Marx's work (good read!) and I'm very intrigued by the Council Communist and autonomous marxist stuff I have thus far read, but I consider myself an anarchist (in the left anarchist tradition of Kropotkin and Bakunin). For more info on Anarchist philosophy and history check out Mid-Atlantic Infoshop.

Updates: I will have the Archive page up sometime on Friday, August 13th (in a rudimentary form) and I am working on the links page, it will probably be up sometime this week. I am anxious for any suggestions readers might have, so please send praise/criticism/abuse to jmorris@hevanet.com Thanks and enjoy the stamps! -- Joseph

PS: Thanks Mike, for sparking my interest in rotten stinking commie art....
