Many states in the U.S. have some kind of special programs for bright or otherwise talented students. In Virginia for example, such classes are known as "GT" classes and offered in the highschools themselves and elsewhere. In Oregon, such extra courses, programs, camps et al. are known as TAG: Talented and Gifted. Access to a certain amount of TAG classes in each school district is required by law (Oregon state law, I believe).
One specific progrma that I am involved with, the Talented And Gifted Summer Enrichment Program, is a month-long summer program on the University of Oregon campus, one of many programs put on by the TAG Institute at the UO's College of Education.
